BOSTON—Gasoline prices continue to surge with a statewide survey reporting a new record average of $3.56 per gallon for regular, self-serve in Massachusetts.

It's the fourth consecutive week that gas prices have risen. But AAA Southern New England says the 2 cent per gallon increase is the smallest rise in the last month.

Massachusetts also remains 5 cents below the national average of $3.61 per gallon.

AAA says the average price for gasoline in the state one year ago at this time was $2.93 per gallon.
