SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—(AP) -- A school administrator from Oklahoma City has been chosen as the next superintendent of schools in Springfield.

The School Committee and the city's Finance Control Board selected 52-year-old Alan Ingram, chief accountability officer for the Oklahoma City public schools, on Tuesday. Ingram also has served as executive director of federal programs and acting Title I director for the Oklahoma City school system.

The other finalists for the job were former Cobb County, Ga., school superintendent Joseph Redden and two Massachusetts educators, Brockton School Superintendent Basan Nembirkow and Swampscott Superintendent Matthew Malone.

The Finance Control Board began a search for a news school chief after declining to renew Superintendent Joseph Burke's current one-year contract.
