Fall River company recalls clam chowder

FALL RIVER, Mass.—A Fall River company is recalling its 20-ounce containers of clam chowder because it may contain shrimp that is not on the list of ingredients.

Blount Fine Foods is recalling Blount All Natural New England Clam Chowder with a Lot number of 0424086D and a sell by date of 6/23/2008. The chowder is in a plastic cup with a film seal and plastic lid.

Already 1,400 units of the 1,416 units produced have been recovered. The chowder was sold at Shaw's Supermarkets in Massachusetts and Connecticut; Omni Foods in Weston; Donelan Market in Acton and Littleton; and The Cirelli Marketplace store in Middleborough.

People with allergies or severe sensitivity to shrimp can suffer serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported.
