The Soldiers' Home in Chelsea is scheduled to hold its Memorial Day services at 10:30 a.m. today in Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St. in Everett. Soldiers' home residents are scheduled to read a special proclamation from Governor Deval Patrick, along with General John A. Logan's Memorial Day Order. state Senator Anthony Galluccio will be the guest speaker. A holiday meal will be served by the Soldiers' Home staff after the ceremony.

HEALTH FAIR FOR KIDS - The Massachusetts General Hospital Chelsea HealthCare Center is scheduled to hold its 11th annual Summer Safety Health Fair, formerly known as Safety-On-Wheels, from noon to 3 p.m. June 7. Children ages 4 to 16 will learn home, water, fire, sun, and car safety tips. Parents are encouraged to bring bikes and helmets for a safety check. The event also will feature free face-painting, hoola hoop and coloring book contests, and a free bicycle raffle. The event will take place at the center's parking lot at 151 Everett Ave.

BUDGET HEARINGS SCHEDULED - Residents will have several opportunities to hear officials from various city departments explain their spending requests as the Board of Aldermen and Common Council debate the city's budget for fiscal year 2009, which starts July 1. The sessions, in City Hall, are slated for May 29 from 6 to 9 p.m.; May 31 from 8 a.m. to noon; and June 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. If needed, the lawmakers will hold a fourth public session on June 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. - Kay Lazar
MALDEN
FLAG DAY CELEBRATION - The city plans to host a Flag Day celebration next month. The festivities will be held at Bell Rock Memorial Park on June 14. There will be a speaker and a performance by the Malden High School band. Students from the Ferryway School will recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

SAUGUS
SUPERINTENDENT CHOSEN - The School Committee voted unanimously, 5-0, to appoint Richard Langlois as school superintendent. Currently an assistant superintendent in Haverhill, he was one of three finalists to replace Keith Manville, who is retiring after eight years. A subcommittee must now negotiate a contract with Langlois.
