3 doctors facing conflict of interest investigation

BOSTON --Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital are investigating three psychiatrists accused of not fully disclosing payments they received from drug companies.

Republican U.S. Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa introduced documentation into the Congressional Record last week that indicates doctors Joseph Biederman, Timothy Wilens, and Thomas Spencer may have violated federal and university conflict of interest rules by failing to disclose the full amounts they received from drug makers.

The doctors conduct research in child psychiatry.

The medical school dean has referred the cases to the university's Standing Committee on Conflicts of Interest and Commitment.

Biederman, Wilens, and Spencer said in written statements that they believe they are in compliance with conflict of interest rules.
