BOSTON—A Massachusetts man who fled the state just hours before a jury convicted him of raping his daughter has been captured in the Dominican Republic.

Authorities say 46-year-old German Reyes, formerly of Lawrence and Methuen, was taken into custody on Tuesday by U.S. Marshals and local police in Santo Domingo while visiting a relative.

Authorities say Reyes raped and assaulted his daughter when she was between the ages of 11 and 18.

He was indicted in November 2005. On the last day of his trial on Oct. 23, 2006, he failed to appear in court and was convicted in absentia on multiple charges, including rape of a child, indecent assault and battery and incest.

He is being held pending extradition. He will be sentenced when he returns to Massachusetts.
