BOSTON—A man has been convicted of strangling a young Milton woman and setting her body on fire.

Rodrick Taylor was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder in the April 2006 death of 19-year-old Dominique Samuels, a former Milton High School cheerleader.

Prosecutors said the 37-year-old Taylor strangled Samuels, took her body from her Dorchester rooming house and burned it in an attempt to destroy evidence linking him to the crime. Taylor denied killing Samuels.

Samuels was last seen alive on April 28, 2006. Her body was found burned beyond recognition in Franklin Park two days later.

Prosecutors have said Taylor killed Samuels because she rebuffed his sexual advances.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Monday.
