BOSTON—A man convicted of strangling a young Milton woman and later setting her body on fire in Boston's Franklin Park is awaiting word on his punishment.

Rodrick Taylor is set for sentencing Monday after he was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder in the April 2006 death of 19-year-old Dominique Samuels.

Prosecutors said the 37-year-old Taylor strangled the former Milton High School cheerleader, took her body from her Dorchester rooming house and burned it in an attempt to destroy evidence linking him to the crime. Taylor denied killing Samuels.

Samuels was last seen alive on April 28, 2006. Her body was found burned beyond recognition in Franklin Park two days later.

Prosecutors have said Taylor killed Samuels because she rebuffed his sexual advances.
