Three males were injured, two seriously, in separate shootings and a stabbing overnight, continuing the streak of violence that has rocked Boston this month.
In the first incident, a teenager suffered life-threatening injuries after he was shot multiple times on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury, at the corner of Huckins Street, just before 9:30 p.m. Police cordoned off the area, using dogs and climbing on rooftops of businesses to comb for evidence.
The investigation stretched onto nearby Mount Pleasant Avenue and Forest Street as police used a truck with spotlights to aid in the search.
The victim is a male who police believe is 16 years old, Superintendent Rafael Ruiz said.
"Officers responded within seconds and found a male lying on the ground," he said.
The victim was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment. Janet Lynch, a hospital administrator, would not release the condition of the victim nor identify him.
Ruiz said the victim was in the operating room last night.
The shooting occurred about a half-mile from where police officials and Mayor Thomas Menino vowed Friday to confront violence that has plagued the neighborhood.
About a half-hour after the shooting, a street fight in Charlestown escalated and culminated in the stabbing.
Police responded to a call of a person stabbed at Omeara Court, the result of a fight they believe started on Medford Street. Police spokesman David Estrada said officers were looking for a suspect last night. The stabbing victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police would not release his identity or condition.
In the second shooting, a man in his 20s was shot on Ditmus Court in Roxbury early today, authorities said. The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Lynch said.
The violence followed a series of shootings and stabbings in recent weeks.
Early Thursday, three Dorchester teenagers - ages 13, 15, and 16 - were shot on a third-story balcony and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
The day before, less than a mile away, a man, 25, survived multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.
Over the Fourth of July weekend, four separate incidents left seven people shot, two fatally, including a 17-year-old male on his way to a holiday cookout in Hyde Park.
