Mass. swimmer wins 2.4-mile Maine race

PORTLAND, Maine—A Melrose, Mass., man has won the 27th annual Peaks to Portland swim race, completing the 2.4-mile course in Casco Bay in 42 minutes, 11 seconds.

Joe Sheehan clocked the fastest time Saturday since Sean Flaherty's 40:30 in 2001. It was the second victory for Sheehan, who came in first in the 2006 race from Peaks Island to Portland's East End Beach.

Lauren Trocchio of Cape Elizabeth was the top female finisher in 48:42, the 13th best time overall.
