WORCESTER, Mass.—The only portrait missing from the mayoral gallery in Worcester's City Hall has been found under years of dust and grime.

Francis Harrington led the city from 1890 to 1892. But he'd been largely forgotten until an intern at City Hall did a survey earlier this summer and realized Harrington was the only mayor without a portrait in the gallery to mark his term.

At about that time, Mayor Konstantina Lukes went to the city clock tower to conduct an interview for her cable TV show with Worcester's official time keeper.

There, the mayor noticed several paintings so thick with dust the pictures couldn't be seen.

Harrington was rediscovered when the decades of dust were brushed off. City officials say they think the portrait can be restored and rehung where it belongs.
