RI, Mass. officials urge more education funding

WASHINGTON—Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley are calling for more education funding to prevent students from dropping out of school.
The two officials will be in Washington on Wednesday for the release of a new report showing a link between violent crime and high school dropout rates.
The report was prepared by the children's advocacy group, "Fight Crime: Invest in Kids."
It estimates that 37 murders could be prevented each year in Massachusetts if the state's graduation rate were to raise by 10 percent.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the National Press Club in Washington.
