DUXBURY, Mass.—Duxbury police say a part-time officer who was struck by a car while directing traffic near the Marshfield Fair earlier this month has died.

Chief Mark DeLuca on Tuesday announced the death of Officer Mel Dyer on the department's Web site.

Dyer was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after he was struck around 10 p.m. on Aug. 16 near the intersection of Route 3A and South River Street. Witnesses told police a car failed to stop and struck the officer, who was working a paid detail.

The 67-year-old Dyer also worked with the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department.

The driver of the car that allegedly struck Dyer has been identified by police as Kristen Wusteney of Marshfield. She faces a variety of charges, including motor vehicle homicide.
