CONCRETE, Wash.—Two hikers from Massachusetts have been rescued after being stranded for two nights in the North Cascades.

On Friday, rescuers helped 33-year-old Matthew Edwards and 27-year-old Robin Gibson climb three miles down from the Spire Point area to a spot below cloud cover where they could be picked up by a helicopter from Whidbey Naval Air Station.

They are from Wendell, Mass.

They were airlifted to Concrete, 70 miles north of Seattle, where a Navy paramedic and family members were waiting. The Skagit County sheriff's office says they're in fair condition.

They were initially stranded on an 18-inch mountain ledge until they were able to move onto a glacier.
