ORLEANS, Mass.—Child rape charges against a Provincetown man have been dismissed because the alleged victim's family decided the child was too young to testify.

The case against 57-year-old Gregory Perkins was dismissed on Wednesday during a pretrial hearing in Orleans District Court because the parents of the 7-year-old child would not cooperate with the prosecution. Perkins was a friend of the child's family.

It was the second time in a year that child rape charges against Perkins have been dropped. The previous case was dismissed in June after the parents of a 5-year-old child decided not to go forward.

Perkins pleaded not guilty in both cases.
