The Massachusetts Highway Department will begin a $4.3 million road rehabilitation project in Topsfield from Main Street to Route 1 in March.

The plan includes drainage improvement and updating or adding granite curbing, sidewalks, retaining walls, water mains, and 40 trees.

The project's $200,000 design cost and $1 million expense for water work will be paid by the town. MassHighway will spend $3.7 million on the project, which is expected to last about 17 months.
