Concord: Get outdoors New Year's Day at a special program at Walden Pond State Reservation, 915 Walden St. Richard Smith, portraying Henry David Thoreau, will entertain visitors from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Thoreau house replica, then lead a hike into the woods from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Free, $5 parking fee. 978-369-3254.

Stoneham: Sister, who has taught the masses about the saints, venial sins, guilt, and limbo, returns in "Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3." Stoneham Theatre presents the New England premiere, which addresses the sacraments of marriage and last rites, and includes a new version of "The Newlywed Game."
