Suffolk prosecutors said they uncovered the real identity of a man charged with attempted murder in a shooting that wounded four people in East Boston early Thanksgiving Day.

The suspect originally arraigned as Holvin G. Cruz, 32, of Lynn is actually Ramon A. Altagracia, 29, said Jake Wark, a spokesman for Daniel F. Conley, the Suffolk district attorney.

It was not clear why the man has two identities, Wark said. "At this point, only the defendant knows why."

Altagracia is accused of firing multiple shots at a woman he had a relationship with in the past who was walking with her family on an East Boston street early on the morning of Nov. 27. The woman was grazed, while two men were shot and a third man was injured by flying glass from a windshield.

Altagracia was arrested by Boston police less than a mile from the site of the shooting, prosecutors said.

One victim who was shot in the face is still hospitalized. He regained consciousness recently, but has limited speaking ability, Conley's office said.

Altagracia, who was arraigned Tuesday after being indicted on attempted murder and firearms charges, is being held at the Suffolk County jail in lieu of $200,000 bond. He is expected to return to court for a hearing Feb. 12. Altagracia's lawyer, William Keefe, had no comment.
