Globe, Boston.com win first local Emmys

The Boston Globe and Boston.com won its first local Emmy awards for news last night, a milestone as the organization intensifies its video efforts.

The two awards were for the categories of Advanced Media Sports and Advanced Media Arts/Entertainment.

"This is a big deal for us," said David Beard, editor of Boston.com. "They represent 18 months of intensive work into an emerging medium."

The Sports award was for a package of videos featuring, two Red Sox fans before Opening Day, the Boston Celtics, Gino the Dancer, and the New England Patriots. Staff members receiving the award were Chona Camomot, Dina Rudick, Chris Forsberg, Bill Greene, and Ann Silvio.

The Arts/Entertainment category recognized a package of features on an expert yoyo performer, and a collaboration between Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls and the Boston Pops. Camomot and Scott LaPierre received the award.

Other winners last night included WBZ, WCVB, WFXT, WHDH, WGBH, and other television stations throughout New England

A special award was given to meteorologist Dick Albert, who retired earlier this year after 31 years at WCVB-TV.

The 32d National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Boston/New England Emmy Awards ceremony was held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
