The lawyer for the man who calls himself Clark Rockefeller said yesterday he plans to appeal the jury's guilty verdict as early as this week.
In an interview, Jeffrey Denner said he will appeal the conviction of parental kidnapping and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for his client, a German-born man named Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter.
"We'll be reviewing the transcipt and we'll be reviewing the findings," said Denner, who would not say on what grounds he plans to appeal.
"It would be premature to share them now," Denner said.
Rockefeller pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity after being accused of kidnapping his daughter, Reigh, now 8, during a supervised visit and ordering his driver to flee the scene, even as the supervising social worker clung to the car. Rockefeller fled the state and was arrested in Baltimore eight days later.
Rockefeller was acquitted on charges of giving police a false name when he was arrested and of pushing Howard Yaffe, the social worker supervising his visit with Reigh, to the ground.
He was sentenced to four to five years in prison.![]()
