Danvers mall to get an Imax

In conjunction with the release of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,’’ an Imax theater is being installed in the AMC cinema at Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers.

A partnership between Imax and AMC to open 100 new Imax theaters in the United States before 2010 includes the new theater, which will be the fifth Imax screen in the state.

There are two in Boston, one in Natick, and one in Reading.

“We’re excited to offer yet another entertainment option for our viewers at the Liberty Tree Mall,’’ said Justin Scott, a spokesman for AMC.

Imax has the capacity to display images of greater size and resolution than conventional film systems and is known for 3D.

The theater in Danvers, which will open Wednesday, will feature a 56-foot-by-29-foot screen, a digital projection screen, and a new sound system, said Imax spokesman Jackson Meyers.

The theater will seat 378 people.

The next IMmax film to be released after “Revenge of the Fallen’’ is “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,’’ due in Imax theaters on July 29.

Scott said Imax tickets can be expected to cost $3 to $4 more than regular movies.

Matinees will be between $11 and $12 and evening showings between $13 and $14.
