BOSTON—Boston law enforcement authorities are asking for the public's help in the search for a man they call an "impact player" in the city's crime scene.

Attorney General Martha Coakley and Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said Friday that police were closing in on Christian Miranda during an alleged drug deal earlier this week, but he eluded officers after a car and foot chase.

Coakley and Davis said they have arrest warrants charging the 39-year-old Miranda with cocaine trafficking, conspiracy and illegal possession of a firearm.

Coakley says Miranda "spreads anxiety and fear" through the city and has ties to Rhode Island, Connecticut and North Carolina.

A lawyer who represented him at a murder trial in Rocky Mount, N.C., last month did not immediately return a call. Miranda was acquitted in that case.
