SEEKONK, Mass.—The post office in Seekonk is being renamed in memory of a former resident and Marine killed in Iraq in 2006.
The ceremony Sunday honors Cpl. Eric Valdepenas, who was killed when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle in Al Anbar province.
Legislation in Congress to rename the post office passed last year.
Valdepenas graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, R.I., where he was an honors student and captain of the lacrosse team.
He was an engineering student at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst when his Marine Reserve unit was called up in 2005 and sent to Iraq.![]()
