‘Survivor’ winner wants restrictions lifted
“Survivor’’ winner Richard Hatch, serving home confinement for tax evasion, wants a leave to star in a 10th anniversary edition of the reality show. Hatch won $1 million, but was convicted of failing to pay tax on his winnings in 2006. He is serving his final 90 days in home confinement in Newport. On Friday, Hatch asked a federal court for permission to go to Samoa next month, when filming begins. Hatch says any money he earns could be used to pay his tax obligations. The government says in court papers that Hatch still owes $400,000. It argues that if Hatch remains overseas, it would be impossible to imprison him again if he fails to pay his taxes. (AP)
