The baby taken from the womb of a Worcester murder victim last weekend was found alive tonight, and a female suspect in the case taken into custody, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as Julie A. Corey, 35, an acquaintance of Darlene Haynes, 23, whose body was discovered in her Worcester apartment Monday. Haynes had been eight months pregnant at the time of her death, medical authorities said, and her unborn baby was missing.
Authorities said they became suspicious of Corey when, according to her friends, she appeared with a newborn girl in Worcester on Friday. She told friend she had just delivered the baby at a Massachusetts hospital.
Authorities found Corey in Plymouth, N.H., along with a male companion and the baby. The child appeared to be in "fairly good health," and was being evaluated at a N.H. hospital.
Corey was arrested, and charged with being a fugitive from justice.![]()
