Burlington man struck, killed on I-93
A tractor-trailer struck and killed a man standing near the middle of Interstate 93 north in Wilmington yesterday morning, State Police said.
The man, identified by State Police as 49-year-old Muhammed Hashim of Burlington, parked his 2003 Mazda minivan in the breakdown lane about 10 a.m. yesterday, then exited his vehicle. He walked into the road and was in one of the center lanes when he was struck betweeen exits 38 and 39, police said.
Hashim was pronounced dead at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. His family could not be reached for comment.
State Police identified the driver of the truck as Leonardo Fajardo, 35, of Everett. He was taken to Winchester Hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
For about two hours after the crash, the two righthand lanes of the northbound highway were closed, as officials investigated the crash and removed the vehicles involved.
