One dead, 2d wounded in Dorchester shootings
A woman died, and a man was critically injured in shootings on Norwell Street in Dorchester yesterday evening, police said.
The shootings occurred around 7 p.m. in an empty, grassy lot on Norwell. Police found the woman, believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, shot several times. She was declared dead at the scene.
The other victim was taken to Boston Medical Center in critical condition, with a life-threatening gunshot wound to his head, Superintendent Rafael Ruiz said in an interview at the scene.
Police cordoned off the scene yesterday as dozens of neighbors emerged from their homes to find out what happened. Neither of the victims was identified.
The shootings occurred less than 24 hours after another fatal shooting a half-mile away. At about 10:47 p.m. Monday, police found a teenager shot near 25 Glenarm St. He was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The shootings followed a bloody weekend in Boston when a man was beaten to death near the 33 Restaurant and Lounge in the Back Bay. Twelve people have been arrested in the case.
Four people were also shot over the weekend in the city, including a double shooting at a house party in Dorchester’s Grove Hall Saturday.
Police have not released details on any of the shooting victims, saying the cases are under investigation. Police also said they had no information on suspects.
It was not known if any of the shootings were related.
