A diver died off the coast of Plymouth yesterday, fire officials said. A call came in about 2:30 p.m., and fire and Plymouth Harbormaster units responded to an area off Manomet Point, according to Plymouth Fire Department Battalion Chief Stanley Eldridge. The diver’s name was not released, and police and fire officials would not comment on what happened.

Massachusetts political and scientific leaders are planning a groundbreaking in Woods Hole for a $25 million renovation of a marine biological laboratory. Senate President Therese Murray is among those planning to attend today’s kickoff of the renovation of Loeb Laboratory, the cornerstone of the Marine Biological Laboratory’s life sciences training programs. The project is funded by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. (AP)

CARVER
Man critically hurt in dirt bike accident
A Carver man was critically injured yesterday when he flipped over on his motorized dirt bike in an off-road boggy area, police said. Dean Cullinane, 22, was riding alongside fellow Carver resident Michael Jenness, 23, about 4:30 p.m. in an area near Pond Street when Cullinane hit a trench. He lost control of his motorcycle and flipped end-over-end, authorities said. Jenness called for help and directed rescuers to Cullinane, whom EMS responders found “unconscious and unresponsive,’’ police said. He was taken to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth and later flown to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he was listed last night in serious condition. Police said officers notified Cullinane’s parents of the accident.

BOSTON
Former mob boss to face sentencing
A former underboss of the New England mob is to be sentenced Thursday in US District Court for bribing an undercover FBI agent posing as a state official in an attempt to win a $6 million contract on the Big Dig highway project. Carmen “The Cheeseman’’ DiNunzio pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges, as well as separate state charges for extorting $500 per month from a Boston bookmaker. Under the terms of a plea agreement with prosecutors, DiNunzio would serve six years in federal prison. The agreement covers both the state and federal cases. Prosecutors say DiNunzio, who owned a cheese chop in the North End, had been underboss since 2004. (AP)

Accident rebound sends car into firehouse
A Massachusetts man crashed his car into the Pelham fire station early yesterday after a collision with another vehicle forced his Toyota Camry into the front of the complex, sending three firefighters scurrying and causing structural damage, according to local officials. RESCUE, Calif.
Yale student’s funeral to be private
The body of a Yale student who was found dead behind a wall on what should have been her wedding day has been returned to Northern California for her funeral. Dennis Hamilton of Green Valley Mortuary in Rescue said yesterday that the body of Annie Le was in the funeral home’s care. The 24-year-old graduate student was from Placerville, about 10 miles away. Hamilton said Le’s family has requested that details about the funeral be kept private. A memorial service for Le is planned at her fiance’s New York temple later this month. Le vanished from a Yale research building Sept. 8; her body was found five days later. Raymond Clark III is charged with her murder. (AP)
