Suspect arrested in shooting of Boston outreach worker
A man wanted for the August shooting of a city outreach worker has been apprehended, authorities said yesterday.
Domenic Hall, 25, of Boston was captured yesterday morning in Mattapan by Boston police and US marshals and charged with assault with intent to murder in the shooting of a city outreach worker, police spokesman Officer James Kenneally said. The worker was William Harvey.
Harvey, a streetworker with the Boston Community Centers’ Streetworkers Program, was shot in the temple Aug. 21 while off duty on Hammond Street in the South End. He survived and suffered only minor injuries.
Emmett Folgert - executive director of the Dorchester Youth Collaborative, which works closely with the Streetworker program - spoke highly of the bravery of the Streetworkers and said he was pleased an arrest had been made.
“I think it’s good someone was arrested,’’ Folgert said. “I think it’s important that we protect these young men and women who put their lives on the line.’’
Police initially broadcast a description of the suspect, who was believed to have fled on foot, but their area search was unsuccessful. Yesterday they credited witness cooperation in their identification of Hall.
Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis said he was happy the case was resolved and commended his officers in the arrest of Hall.
“I hope, in some small way, today’s arrest provides a small level of comfort to the victim in this case,’’ he said.
Hall is scheduled to be arraigned today in Dorchester District Court.![]()
