The Gloucester Child Sexual Abuse Partnership tomorrow will host Jenna Quinn, who works nationally to advocate against child sexual abuse. She lives in Texas, where a new law was recently passed in her name.
The partnership uses a video produced by Quinn called “It’s Not Just Jenna’’ to train people, particularly employees at youth organizations, to spot signs of child abuse.
“There is nothing more effective than someone sharing their own story,’’ said Barbara St. Pierre, chairwoman of the partnership, who also works at the Pathways for Children agency in Gloucester. “So many of us in the partnership are social workers who deal with the aftereffects of sexual abuse. We are trying to do more work in prevention.’’
Quinn will speak to health classes Friday morning at Gloucester High School. In the afternoon, Pathways will host a reception for her at its main office on Emerson Avenue.
Quinn is scheduled to meet next week with Beacon Hill legislators to discuss “Jenna’s Law,’’ which was recently enacted in Texas. The law requires Texas school districts to include a sexual abuse prevention policy in school handbooks and district improvement plans.
