A four-alarm fire hit a Chinese restaurant in Stoughton yesterday, possibly spreading to attached buildings.

“I know it’s really old, as old as the town,’’ said Stoughton Fire Lieutenant Buddy O’Neil.

The fire at the Washington Street restaurant, Cheng Du, was called in at 3:15 p.m. About 4:30 p.m., a fire dispatcher said the blaze had been largely contained. At least six neighboring towns had been called in to assist with the fire, the dispatcher said.

Manny Pacheco, a worker at Pacheco Hardware nearby, said that at 5 p.m. firetrucks still filled the intersection of Freeman and Washington streets, which was closed down. “Great restaurant, great family,’’ Pacheco said.
