Man stabbed at Boston Medical Center
A dispute erupts in waiting room
A 38-year-old man was critically injured in a stabbing yesterday at Boston Medical Center, where an altercation broke out between two groups of people in a waiting room, authorities said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was stabbed in the neck about 5:30 p.m., police said. No one was in custody as of last night, and Boston police homicide detectives were conducting numerous interviews to obtain more information about the incident.
Although the stabbing victim was in critical condition, police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said he was expected to live.
Another Boston medical center, Massachusetts General Hospital, was the scene of a violent attack on Friday. A 40-year-old homeless man and convicted sex offender, David Flavell, was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault with intent to rape and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, after he grabbed a 27-year-old female hospital employee, ripped her pants, and beat her head against the floor. She fended him off, authorities said, and he is being held without bail pending a psychiatric evaluation.
A spokeswoman for Boston Medical Center said it is hospital policy to not comment on situations involving victims of violence.
Yesterday’s stabbing occurred less than three hours after a 16-year-old girl was grazed on the leg by a bullet at a building on Columbia Road near Geneva Avenue in Dorchester. Police declined to release more information about the incident, which occurred just after 3 p.m.
Boston police also released the name yesterday of a 31-year-old man who was found fatally shot in a Mattapan home on Oct. 16. Carlos Romero Franco of Boston was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to the Harvard Street home just after 5:30 p.m. At the scene, police found a stash of heroin with a street value of just under $1 million, as well as a firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash. No arrests had been made in the killing as of yesterday afternoon.
