Two fishermen who reported trouble with their boat yesterday were found and rescued by the Coast Guard last night, said Petty Officer Connie Terrell. The men, wearing survival suits, were pulled from the water around 9 p.m. in Cape Cod Bay between Sandwich and East Sandwich. The boat, the Carol and Allison out of Wellfleet, sank at 4:15 p.m., about an hour after the two called the Coast Guard station in Provincetown to request assistance, Terrell said. Terrell said the men’s survival suits helped them stay warm and afloat until they were found. The fishermen were checked out by Coast Guard personnel, but declined medical treatment.BOSTON

The New England Center in Durham is listed, as are the iron furnace, a 19th-century Franconia landmark; the 70-meter ski jump at Gunstock Ski Area in Gilford; Brewster Memorial Hall in Wolfeboro; the United Methodist Church in Keene, just vacated by its congregation; and a mill building in East Alstead. Bomb squad destroys old cannonball
An old cannonball at an apartment on Garden Street drew several bomb squads Monday, including one from a Newport, R.I. naval base, called because it was a military-grade explosive. The crew X-rayed the large sphere and brought it back to Rhode Island, where it was destroyed. It was unclear why the residents had the cannonball or why they contacted authorities.© Copyright 2009 Globe Newspaper Company.
