REVERE, Mass.—A Revere man accused of fatally shooting a city police officer is scheduled to face trial in January.

A judge on Thursday scheduled the trial of 22-year-old Robert Iacoviello (YAC'-oh-vee-ELL'-oh) Jr. for Jan. 4.

Prosecutors allege that Iacoviello shot and killed off-duty Officer Daniel Talbot in September 2007 in a field behind Revere High School after Talbot and one of Iacoviello's friends were involved in an argument.

That friend, 19-year-old Derek Lodie, was sentenced to up to 12 years in prison earlier this week after pleading guilty to being an accessory before the fact. Two others face charges of being accessories after the fact. They will also be tried starting Jan. 4.

Iacoviello has pleaded not guilty.
