Only weeks after two incidents involving Massachusetts General Hospital left one person dead and one seriously injured, a third episode occurred Sunday when a Level 3 sex offender was arrested at the hospital, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Francis Pelosi, 56, of Boston, was charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, threats to commit a crime, possession of a Class E substance, and larceny under $250, Conley said. He was held on $1,000 cash bail at Boston Municipal Court, where he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment yesterday. He was a patient who was being discharged.

On Sunday evening, Boston police arrived to assist MGH police in removing Pelosi from the hospital’s waiting room, where he had locked himself in a men’s room, Conley said. Pelosi had been in the bathroom for about 10 minutes by the time police arrived.

Officers forced their way into the restroom seven or eight minutes later and ordered him to wash his hands and leave. Pelosi refused and started packing and unpacking the suitcase he had with him while verbally assaulting the officers, the district attorney said.

Police spent about 45 minutes trying to negotiate with Pelosi, who attempted to enter the hospital again after being escorted from the building. He was then arrested.

Officers found a bottle of hydrogen peroxide that belonged to the hospital, a small bag of marijuana, and about 250 pills on Pelosi after conducting a search, Conley said.

Pelosi will return to court Nov. 19.

A statement from MGH last night said no one was hurt during Sunday’s incident and that officers dealt with Pelosi swiftly.

“On Sunday, a patient being discharged from Massachusetts General Hospital Emergency Department came to the attention of MGH police and security officers after exhibiting suspicious behavior and making threatening comments,’’ the statement said.

“The individual was disorderly and uncooperative and was placed under arrest by MGH police and security after refusing to leave the hospital.’’

On Oct. 27, police say, Jay Carciero, 37, of Reading, attacked and repeatedly stabbed Dr. Astrid Desrosiers, 49, at a nearby MGH clinic before he was eventually shot several times and killed by security guard Paul Langone. Desrosiers’ husband said she “was on her way to recovery.’’

On Oct. 22, police say, David Flavell, a Level 3 sex offender, grabbed a 27-year-old female hospital employee inside a restroom, beat her head against the floor, and ripped her pants. The woman, whose job was not identified by authorities, fought off her attacker, but had a bloody face afterward. She was treated and released.
