BELMONT, Mass.—Authorities say a commuter train has struck and killed a young woman behind Belmont High School.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the inbound train on the Fitchburg Line hit the young woman around 12:40 p.m Thursday about 250 yards from the nearest crossing area. He said investigators on the scene described her as appearing to be high-school age.
Deputy Chief Joseph O'Connor of the MBTA Transit Police told reporters that young woman walked onto the tracks into the path of a train that had just left Belmont Center Station. O'Connor said the fatality is still under investigation.
It was not clear whether she was a student at Belmont High School and police have not released her name.![]()
