ORLANDO, Fla.—Isaac Sosa scored 26 points and Central Florida rode a strong defensive effort to beat Massachusetts on Friday night, 84-67.

The Knights held the Minutemen to 33 percent shooting and used a 9-0 run early in the second half to pull away to a comfortable victory.

After UMass (0-1) tied the game at 43 early in the second half, the Knights clamped down and got key baskets from Sosa and freshman Keith Clanton as UCF (1-0) built a 12-point lead.

UMass guard Freddie Riley made a 3-pointer to get his team within nine, but Sosa answered with one of his own to push the lead back to double digits. The Minutemen got no closer despite attempting a school-record 38 3-pointers.

Freshman guard Marcus Jordan, son of NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, played 11 minutes for the Knights and was 0 for 2 from the floor. He had two assists and three turnovers.
