BOSTON—Senate lawmakers have approved a bill designed to streamline the siting and permitting of land-based wind energy projects in Massachusetts.
Senate President Therese Murray said the bill will help untangle current rules and boost the state's reliance on renewable energy sources.
The bill would require an advisory board to develop predictable siting standards with the help of state agencies, regional commissions and environmental groups.
The legislation is designed to eliminate the need for multiple permit applications for wind projects of more than 2 megawatts.
The bill now heads to the House.
