Women charged in Bentley stabbing
Student wounded in campus assault
WALTHAM - A pair of reputed call girls were ordered held without bail yesterday pending hearings next week, after they allegedly argued with, robbed, and stabbed a student on the Bentley University campus.
Sarah Monta, 19, of Cranston, R.I., and Breanne Fraser, 22, of Danvers, were arraigned yesterday in Waltham District Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and robbery after police said they assaulted and stole $300 from a student at the school’s Fenway dormitory, police said.
During the hearing, a Middlesex prosecutor also requested a bail revocation hearing, because the women had been free on bail stemming from similar charges in a Jan. 6 incident in Boston.
The women are due in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn Wednesday for those hearings.
Campus police identified the student, but he could not be reached for comment.
According to a police report provided to reporters at the courthouse, Bentley University police responded to the dorm about 3:35 a.m. yesterday for a report of a student who had been stabbed. They found the alleged victim with a large stab wound to his upper right chest, but he was conscious and alert. He was later released from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
He described the suspects, who were captured while running toward their car in a campus visitors’ parking lot.
In the police report, Fraser told police the alleged victim had offered her $50 for oral sex, but she refused. The police report indicates that one of them stabbed him, and that they stole $300 from his bedroom.
In the Boston case, Suffolk prosecutors said that a 48-year-old man who had won $300 at Foxwoods called the women, who told him, “It would be $200 for one girl, and $300 for two girls.’’ He gave the women $300, but changed his mind, and the women allegedly refused to provide a refund.
They fought with the man and called a third woman, identified as India Williams, who allegedly helped Monta punch and kick the man and took off with the $300. Police captured them at the scene and found $300 in Williams’s underwear.
Williams and Monta were charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (foot), assault and battery, and larceny over $250. Fraser was charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct from that incident. They were released on $500 bail and a promise to appear.
When Fraser was taken into custody yesterday, police asked her if she knew how the student had been stabbed, and Fraser broke down crying, saying, “Oh, my God, I hope Sarah didn’t do that to him.’’ Both women were charged with assault in this case.
When Bentley police searched the women, they found a copy of their promise-to-appear notice from Boston Municipal Court.
At their arraignment yesterday, neither woman spoke. Their lawyers stood in front of them and entered not-guilty pleas on their behalf. When the judge addressed them, each woman looked up briefly and nodded. Monta turned her head so that her long hair covered her face from cameras. Fraser hid her face with her hands, which were in handcuffs.
Defense attorneys declined to comment.
Bentley authorities stressed there was no threat to anyone else on campus, but declined to comment on the situation directly.
Students appeared relatively at ease on campus yesterday.
“I feel like the campus security we have here is pretty decent,’’ said senior Joe Rizoli.
