Eric Seemann ran into Amy Bishop one day last spring on the University of Alabama at Huntsville campus, where the faculty takes pride in creating a collegial academic cocoon. They’d developed a bond over the years, starting as junior professors together in 2003 and chatting from time to time about the triumphs and frustrations of the research life.
