BOSTON—Massachusetts is receiving over $70 million worth of federal stimulus funding for transit programs across the state.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will get the bulk of the money: $55 million for operating assistance and improvements along its rapid transit network.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will get $1.6 million for rural operating assistance, and to buy two 45-foot motorcoaches and a hybrid bus.

The Greater Attleboro-Taunton Regional Transit Authority is getting $200,000 to fix an ornamental fencing at the Attleboro commuter rail station.

And the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority is getting $2.6 million for operating assistance and eight buses.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood made the announcement Friday.
