BOSTON—Gov. Deval Patrick is blitzing through Boston as he tries to soothe Democrats nervous about his re-election prospects.

The Democrat has five stops on Saturday from West Roxbury to Mission Hill, Mattapan, Beacon Hill and Roxbury.

On Sunday, he plans to be in Brighton, Charlestown, East Boston and the South End.

Recent polls show Patrick retaining his lead in this year's gubernatorial race. But the governor is facing a robust challenge amid sagging popularity.

Charles Baker and Christy Mihos are competing for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Patrick is being challenged for the Democratic nomination by social activist Grace Ross. And state Treasurer Timothy Cahill is running as an independent to ensure he will be in November's general election.
