BOSTON—U.S. Sen. Scott Brown has co-sponsored an amendment that would repeal a tax on medical devices included in the federal health care overhaul law signed by President Barack Obama.

Brown said the 2.3 percent tax on the sale of medical devices puts an added financial burden on the more than 200 medical device manufacturers in Massachusetts employing tens of thousands of workers.

Brown, the only Republican in the state's congressional delegation, said he would also work to repeal the entire health care law.

Gov. Deval Patrick said he's also concerned about any extra burden on the medical device industry in Massachusetts, but stopped short of endorsing Brown's call for a repeal saying he needed to learn more about the tax.

Patrick is a strong supporter of the new health care law.
