BOSTON—An independent review of the MBTA launched after a subway crash last year injured dozens has found fault with the transit agency's hiring and safety practices, and recommended installing an automated crash prevention system.
The report released Wednesday by the American Public Transportation Association found that some train operators were hired without even having a driver's licenses, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority uses an imprecise lottery hiring system.
The report also called for the T to install an automatic system for preventing underground crashes.
MBTA General Manager Richard Davey says he has already implemented some of the report's recommendations.
The study was commissioned after a May trolley crash on the Green Line that injured about 50.![]()
