BOSTON—Cellist Yo-Yo Ma is moving his Silk Road Project from Rhode Island to Harvard University.
The 12-year-old not-for-profit organization is known for bringing together musicians from different backgrounds and traditions. It has had ties with Harvard since 2005.
Harvard President Drew Faust says the move to university-owned property in Boston's Allston neighborhood will help foster new artistic and cultural opportunities for students and the local community.
The Silk Road Ensemble -- featuring performers from more than 20 countries -- will give annual public performances at Harvard.
Silk Road is ending a five-year affiliation with the Rhode Island School of Design. RISD Provost Jesse Shefrin says the school and the organization are hoping to find news ways to work together in the future.![]()
