BOSTON—Just months after she lost a bitter race for U.S. Senate, Attorney General Martha Coakley is poised to sail into another term unopposed.

The Massachusetts Republican Party said Wednesday it failed to draft a candidate to challenge Democrat Coakley, who faces no opposition from within her own party.

Any party challenger to Coakley had until Tuesday to submit the signatures of 10,000 registered voters for review by local city and town clerks.

Coakley had been considered vulnerable after her loss in January to Republican Scott Brown for the Senate seat formerly held by the late Edward Kennedy. Critics, including some in the Democratic Party, faulted her for a lackluster campaign.

Republican party officials have conceded that despite her Senate loss, Coakley remains popular as attorney general.
