BOSTON—State police say a convicted child rapist who has been on the Massachusetts Most Wanted list since 2004 has been captured in the Dominican Republic.

Authorities say Henry Valerio was convicted in Worcester Superior Court in 1989 of rape of a child, assault to rape, and indecent assault on a child under the age of 14. Police say he fled while out on bail awaiting sentencing.

Police and prosecutors say they recently developed information that Valerio was in the Dominican Republic. They alerted the U.S. Marshals Service, who apprehended Valerio.

He is currently being held by marshals and will be extradited to Massachusetts for sentencing at a future date.
