BROCKTON, Mass.—A former girls soccer coach convicted of raping one of his teenage players has been sentenced to up to 10 years in state prison.

Jose Arana was sentenced Wednesday in Brockton Superior Court to eight to 10 years behind bars, followed by 2 1/2 years of probation.

The 47-year-old Arana was convicted this week of two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child over 14 for the assault on the then 15-year-old girl in July 2004 while she was at his house for a sleepover with his daughter.

The victim played for a team Arana coached. He was also coach at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham. Arana was convicted in 2007, but the verdict was vacated by the Supreme Judicial Court.

His lawyer said there was no physical evidence of an attack.
