TAUNTON — As authorities brought drunken driving charges yesterday against a motorist who slammed into a police cruiser over the weekend — the fifth time in as many weeks that a Massachusetts state trooper has been struck on a roadside — the head of the State Police union called for a sweeping crackdown on impaired motorists.
