BLANDFORD, Mass.—A Massachusetts Turnpike service plaza has fully reopened for the first time since a chemical leaked from a tanker truck earlier this week.

State police said on Friday the Blandford plaza has been deemed safe after the tractor-trailer was dismantled and taken in pieces to a disposal facility.

On Tuesday, the driver of the truck hauling about 40,000 pounds of a sulfuric acid waste product noticed it was leaking. He pulled off the highway and into the service plaza, where the truck was isolated.

After discovering a rupture in one of the compartments of the tanker, officials decided that dismantling the truck was the safest way to remove it.

The driver sustained initial minor exposure to the chemical but there were no other injuries.
